My First 5 Mile Race

Yes, I know this is Jamie’s place but since I have recently been granted access so I can edit (my husbands spelling is terrible) I figured that gives me the greenlight to share an occasional blurb about my own things.

Therefore, I am going to toot my own horn. I ran my first 5 mile race this past weekend. There are a few “first”s in that last sentence. “5 mile” is one and “race” is another. This does not include of course “race you to the teeter totter” in elementary school. I have never ran a race nor have I ever run 5 miles at one time. With that said, I finished in 61′ 47″. To any of you who are runners, you may be saying no big deal (it’s a roughly 12′ 21″ mile) but please keep in mind that I have only been medically cleared (post-surgeries) for two months and post-partum for 4 months. Prior to these past two months, I have not worked out consistently for over 2 years. And the week before the race I only made it to the gym once because we were all sick with some stomach bug that Guy was kind enough to share. So, even though it took me over an hour to finish, I am ecstatic that I finished! Besides if I hadn’t had to stop for a pee break in the woods about mid-point, I would have been a little closer to an even hour.

I plan on running the rest of the races in the series. So hopefully, we will be able to see my times consistently drop over the next few months. This was the first of a 6 race series. For info check out the No Frills Racing Series.

A quick thank you to Melodee for running with me, the girls at the Y for letting us know and encouraging us, and especially to my wonderful husband for his reassurance & support.
