wine kit

Marv and I stopped by Cornhusker Beverage Mart and another store to purchase supplies. I purchased this wine kit in merlot.

I figured that for my first attempt I would go the way of a kit. This way I can walk through the process with something that is supposed to give decent results. Hopefully I won’t screw it up too bad.

If all goes well, I think I will try one of the recipes over on The Winemaking Home Page.

beer and wine

I spent the day assisting another good friend of mine, Marv, with bottling wine, brewing and kegging beer. We kegged 5 gallons of beer and bottled 60 bottles of wine that he already had finished. Lots of fun and very messy!

Marv let me take charge while he guided me in brewing a honey amber beer. Which is surprisingly easy to do. It just takes a lot of prep, organization and cleanliness. I learned a lot and am anxious to give brewing a try on my own but that will have to wait because I doubt Guy will let me be for a whole day.

So instead of beer, I am going to give wine a try first. Marv was gracious enough to give me enough equipment to get started and is going to help me pick out the ingredients that I need tomorrow night after work. And if all goes well, I will start making a merlot wine this Saturday.
